Royals of the Tempest
Reader Discretion and Frequently Asked Questions
Reader Discretion
One of the focal points of this story is around the character Nicole Greenester, formerly known as Michael Anthony, and her realizing her identity and coming into it. She is a trans girl, as bluntly as I can put it. As a consequence to this, use of her birthname cannot be avoided in the first leg of the story. As such, usage of that name will be left uncensored up until a point of the story I've codenamed "Revelation", as well as in the character bios section. Beyond that point, mentions of her birthname will be censored.
Additionally, this story will tackle themes of transphobia and gender dysphoria at times. They won't be at the forefront of the story at all times, but fair warning nonetheless. More explicit cases of the two (and other potential trigger content) will be marked with a content warning at the top of a given chapter or prompt's page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the setting of Royals?
- A: Basically a midwestern city (name pending) in modern-day USA. This is a "realistic" fiction with some key differences: The Tempest and the Auras.
Q: What is the Tempest?
- A: The codename for the weather event in which a tropical-level thunderstorm destroyed a rather peculiar weather satellite. The resulting destruction affected matter in close proximity to the satellite at the time of touchdown.
Q: What are Auras?
- A: In this story, Auras are manifestations of the latent energy in the Tempest satellite. Affected sentient life can trigger this manifestation at will, usually in the form of a weapon such as Nicole's Aura Hammer or Hally's Aura Chakram.
Q: What is The Parallel?
- A: The Parallel is an alternate world that was created due to the incident involving the Tempest sattelite. It's a realm without color that vaguely resemebles the shapes and structures of the real world.
In this realm, the Aura Blights exist, beings with powers similar to the Aura weapons. These entities do not appear to be sentient or biologically alive, but are hostile towards most biological life forms they come in close proximity to. They can't be destroyed with conventional weaponry; only by a source of Aura, such as themselves or an Aura Weapon.
Q: Why are some chapters numbered as n?
- A: At the time of writing, there isn't a complete structure to Royals of the Tempest in terms of chapters. I have the idea for most of the plot from start to finish in my head, but little idea in how many chapters it will amount to. Thus, if I don't know where the chapter sits numerically, I will use the varaible n to denote it. The chapters still have names, so I'm not worried about mixing them up.
Q: Why are some pages green, some blue, and others greyscale?
- A: I attempt to write mostly in the third-person limited perspective. However, I don't limit myself to writing a singular third person's (Nicole's) perspective anymore. Thus, some chapters and prompts are written from Nicole's perspective, some from Hally's, and others from both. You can implicitly tell which I'm writing by whose thoughts get projected in the writing, but I thought having colors matching the POV's theme would be a nice touch.
